When Kelly Clarkson won the first American Idol way back in 2002, there was no indication of whether the singer was a fleeting phenomenon or the start of something lasting. Ten years later, with her first compilation, Greatest Hits, Chapter 1, appearing, the answer is clear: American Idol and Kelly Clarkson wound up as institutions that had nothing to do with each other. Clarkson shrugged off the expectations of AmIdol as quickly as she could, dutifully — and enjoyably — hitting all her marks on her 2003 debut, Thankful, highlighted by the tossed-off Christina Aguilera co-written single “Miss Independent” and the coronation song “A Moment Like This,” but she wound up nailing her defiant, casually feminist persona a year later with “Since U Been Gone,” one of the great singles of the new millennium. From there, Kelly both pushed too hard (her admirably conflicted neo-goth record My December) and not enough (“Stronger,” an enjoyably by-the-books 2012 single that deservedly topped the U.S. charts), but throughout it all Clarkson remarkably retained her identity, producing a body of work that was pretty much untouchable when compared to any other pop star of the new millennium.

Hit after hit after hit song, with absolutely no filler to be found. Usually greatest hits collections (from any era) include some lesser hits or even some strong album tracks just to help fill out the collection, but not here. On top of that, all these songs are still played around the clock on radio today. Not the type of hits that are forgotten once they leave the charts. Pretty impressive. Obviously, 10 years of making pop music was not wasted on this woman. Plus, there's three new diverse recordings that are top-of-the-line Clarkson. In light of this very impressive collection, I would proclaim Kelly Clarkson the Queen of 21st Century Pop.
I did not watch American Idol till season 2 so didn't see the initial introduction of Kelly Clarkson. And then I honestly never gave her a chance. I don't listen to the radio much and she went under my radar. Till the song STRONGER came along. OMG, that song blew me away in her vocal performance and I related to it in so many ways. I purchased this Greatest Hits cd and fell in love. Song after song I fell in love with the versatility, range and vocal prowess of Kelly Clarkson. I like all types of music but what matters to me most is emotion and meaning coming from a song and how it is performed. To me Kelly is in a class of her own. She imparts such emotion in each note and line of a song and her range goes from quiet and still in a ballad to belting with such power that tingles to up and down my spine. I then purchased every cd she has done and love them all while being impressed with the true versatility when looking at them all. My favorite ones are ALL I EVER WANTED, MY DECEMBER and STRONGER.
Purchased this for my daughters, as b/c it had popular songs and KC doesn't seem to get in to the sex oriented songs that plague the radio airwave's now days. She also doesn't slink around in partial clothing, so if one of them watches a video, they won't be shocked at what they see.Overall, her songs are strong and to the point. would recommend.
K.C. HITS A WINNER...I'M NEW TO HER VOICE AND SOUND FROM THE MIKE IN THE STUDIO...BUT I BECAME INTERESTED IN HER SONGS FROM THE "WOMEN IN SONG" SERIES...A GOOD SINGER WITH GREAT CHOPS!!...EASY TO SEE WHY SHE WON ACCOLADES FROM JUDGES OF EARLIER TESTS OF THE EAR!!..//CR/LOL/LASVEGASNV
I normally can't stand modern pop, but I love this album!! I'm hooked on almost all the songs on it. I was glad to find it's not all electronic-sounding--it's mostly made of traditional instruments with the more modern electronic sounds mixed in, in moderation. The songs sound similar to each other, but they're not all the same. It's really great, and it makes wonderful workout music! I was a little apprehensive about getting it at first, but here I am giving it five stars!
