This book is absolutely adorable and I wish I could have read it (and seen the new movie!) when I was seven or eight years old. Set up to resemble a scrapbook with lots of photos and margin notes, the handbook covers all the basics a new member of the Ghostbuster team would need to know, including information on the founding members, definitions of paranormal terminology, and an explanation of the Ghostbusters' spirit classification system. There's also some backstory that didn't make it into the film, and insider info that every Ghostbuster should know (like why you should never attempt to high-five Kevin). The Ghostbuster's Handbook is a fun, kid-friendly companion piece to the 2016 movie.
I know that the upcoming Ghostbusters film has many fans up in arms. After reading this book, I can honestly say that I am even more excited for this movie than before. The new Ghostbusters are very fascinating characters and the movie's villain Rowan is very reminiscent of Ivo Shandor from the original in his goal and how he goes about it. The book also treats us to glimpses of the new proton packs, vehicles and apparitions the Ghostbusters will encounter in the film. All in all a good read for kiddies or a lifelong fan.
I love Ghostbusters and this book is a great part of that and you need to buy it now !
This is a fun, portable guide to the new Ghostbusters. I ordered the digital edition of this wee book as a means to supplement having fully read the 'adult' novelization. While I would have preferred a larger, DK [Dorling Kindersley] published Visual Dictionary and/or Incredible Cross-Sections type photo-reference guide i.e. what the "Star Wars" folks get regularly, I found this wee guide to be rather well composed, edited and organized for GB fans of all ages. The photos are all pretty crisp and the handbook does a great job in defining the 7 different Classes of Ghosts and the 5 levels of spectral interaction (T1-5). The Ghostbusters, their backstories, key ghost characters, GB equipment, etc. are all dealt with rather nicely within the compact confines of this guide. There's a quiz at the end for junior GBs to earn their certification; again, this is aimed at kids but can be enjoyed by fans of all-ages.
Major spoilers for the new movie, so hold off reading until after you've seen it. Otherwise, a fun (middle-grade) read!
